Meet Kaitlynn, 2016 Senior

Hello, Lovelies

Kaitlynn, Class of 2016

A few weeks ago Kaitlynn had a fall senior session. The collage above (a surprise to her) includes just a handful of her photos from that day. I am so glad she likes her photos (along with her friends and family). You may be seeing more of her later; we have a couple tentative shoots for her throughout her senior year in the works.

I love how I am able to capture a moment or milestone for people. Kaitlynn and her family will be looking back on these photos for years to come, so they needed to capture her. Her style, her personality. I'm glad I was able to do that because this is an important transition in her life. Now she has beautiful photos to remember her senior year of high school.

Thru Holly's Eyes now on Facebook!

Hello, Lovelies

A couple weeks ago I finally gave in and made a Facebook page for my photography. I don't know what kept me from doing it. I guess I was just nervous to find out what people think of my photography. Family is one thing but strangers are another. There is a delicate balance of  "I want people to see my photos" and "I will keep my anxious little self over here, and you can find me". What a way to live. I am clearly a party person.

Anyways, I now have a Facebook page. I will still post on here, but I don't know how often. I will be updating my photography Facebook page regularly since more people see that. To make it really easy for you to find the page, I have it linked at the top of the page. All that is left for you to do is go click it. I would really appreciate it if you went and gave my page a like. Maybe even share with your friends. It really does help. If you like what you see, you can contact me about a photo session.

Thanks in advance,
HW

Black/White VS. Color

Hello, Lovelies

I love black and white photos. There's no denying it. and why would I even want to? Black and white is timeless, classic, elegant. Not every photo is meant to be black and white though. Then there are times when a photo can look great in both color and black and white. That's where I get a little stumped. How do I choose which to upload?

Below are photos I edited in black and white and in color. When deciding which to upload, I sometimes end up posting both because I can't decide. I love how both edits look. Help me decide! Leave a comment telling me which you like better. I'd love the feedback.

Grandma's Quilts

Hello, Lovelies

When my grandma retired from her job, she had more time to focus on something she really loves doing. Quilting. She loves to make quilts and spends a lot of time and effort doing so. She decided to make her hobby into a small business.
The two quilts below are examples of her work. The first was a graduation gift to me. I chose the fabric and design, and she put it together. The second is a blue and yellow themed baby blanket with a giraffe as the focal point. It is still for sale for those interested. Quilts make good gifts for different life events, and my grandma will even work with you to make a custom quilt to be sure it is everything you wanted.
You can contact my grandma, Marie Wood, at RosewoodQuiltsMI@gmail.com or on Facebook by searching  Rosewood Quilts-MI.

4 Month Photos | Addalynn

Hello, Lovelies

My little niece is almost five months old! I can hardly believe it; time seems to go by so quickly. Anyway, here are some photos from her four month mini session.

I tried a new technique during part of the session. It's called the plastic bag technique where you put a plastic sandwich baggie over your lens. It gave the photos a kind of hazy, dreamy look. I am definitely going to need more practice with it, but I liked the effect. The first photo below is an example of this photography trick.

And in color because I can never decide!

2015 Vacation Photos, Part 2

Hello, Lovelies

The second part of my trip to the east coast was Washington, D.C. for a week. Here are photos from visiting the monuments the last day.

The first three photos were taken with my Canon, the others were taken with my smartphone.

Something Different.

Hello, Lovelies

I really just wanted to try something completely different from anything I've done in the past.

The photo started out simple, just a random photo I took while on a walk around my town. When I opened it in Photoshop, I gave it a new, not-so-subtle look. It's not something I would normally go for. I like how it looks here.

The unedited version:

I also like the unedited version. Thoughts?

2015 Vacation Photos, Part 1

Hello, Lovelies

Somewhere between getting home from vacation and life happening, I didn't post vacation photos on this blog. What was I thinking? I don't know, but they are here now. Enjoy seeing some photos of my adventures. This is part one of vacation from my time visiting family in Virginia.

Now that I've uploaded them, I realize that all but the last photo I took while at the Virginia Aquarium. Oh, well. I guess you get to see some of what aquarium features without actually going.
Until next time,

Family Session

Hello, Lovelies

Here are a handful of photos from my sister's family session a little while ago.

The struggle of photographing cranky children was real during this shoot. I am happy with the photos that turned out despite this. It's all about keeping your cool!
